The Women & Girls We Serve

Our beneficiaries come from diverse backgrounds, but they share a common experience: hardship. Some have left school due to family responsibilities or financial limitations. Others are young mothers seeking stability. Many simply need someone to believe in them.

Kunning Gambia stands beside them - providing hope, skills, and community.

“When you empower a girl, you empower a generation.”
Jalika Jatta, Founder of Kunning Gambia

Meet Our Founder - Jalika Jatta

Jalika Jatta founded Kunning Gambia after relocating to Gunjur and seeing the real needs within the community. Before moving to The Gambia, she spent many years in the UK as a social worker, supporting vulnerable children and families through complex challenges. That experience shaped her belief that early intervention, advocacy, and a listening ear can change the direction of a young person’s life.

When Jalika arrived in Gunjur, she saw loving families doing their best but often without access to guidance or support. She recognised the same vulnerabilities she had worked with for years, but here, there were fewer systems available to help. She felt a responsibility to use her skills, passion, and experience to fill that gap.

Kunning Gambia was created to give children and families a safe place to turn. We advocate, mediate, and support young people so they feel heard, protected, and empowered. Jalika's vision is simple: stronger families, confident children, and a community where no one faces their challenges alone.
